We Need a Bigger Boat
The BIG Paradise Circus as it stands now was just a dream for 10 whole years before it became this magnificent reality.
The pole dancers of Margs had been learing in a tiny home studio on wobbly stage poles for many many years while I scoured the town for a building with the golden combination:
ceiling height, structural stability for poles and OMFG... PLANNING PERMISSION.
Destiny
It's safe to say that the girls had well and truely outgrown the little bedroom studio. We needed a bigger space!
This location has been a gym for decades & even briefly in 2020 was an actual pole studio. It is literally the perfect place - high ceilings, structural steel frame, ZONING!!
It was made to be a pole studio.
Miraculously in November 2024 a deal for the space was struck, contracts were signed & it was time to fulfil the building's destiny & become what it was made for... to be a POLE DANCE STUDIO.
We couldn't believe it, we FINALLY had a venue!
The Christmas Marathon
We got the keys in December and that was IT.
You'd never believe it but the entire studio fit out was built in less then 3 weeks, over Christmas & New Years, by a bunch of pole dancers, mostly around their day jobs & kids with zero trade skills BUT a heap of deluded self confidence in our untrained abilities.
Gyprock is Heavy & Awkward AF
WE painted the entire place from bright blue to bright pink outside (yep, we re gendered the building); then from drab grey to more pink inside.
We build 4 meter high walls from steel & gyprock.
We lay 150sq meters of flooring!!
(Yes, that nearly broke us the whole building is wonky AF)
10,000 Staples Later
While the engineers fit the poles we (mostly I, because no one else understood what I was doing or why a huge velevt wall was so integral to the vision) stapled hundreds of meters of velvet EVERYWHERE.
AND so it was born, this miraculous, sligthly vaginal, entirely wonderful studio.
Next time you walk in the heart shape door (that was cut & fixed in place by a visiting Dad who came to see his pole dancing daughter for Christmas but ended up cutting a 6 foot plywood heart) take a second to look around and marvel at what we created.
Our Pole Family Is Complete
We, quite literally, built the place with our bare, tough, pole dancing hands.
I will be eternally grateful to all the people who pitched in and helped me bring my vision into reality.
